AVS Audio Editor goes beyond the standard audio editing functions to offer you the possibility of recording new audio, mixing various tracks, generating text to speech, adding stunning audio effects, etc. Audio files are represented as waveform, envelope, and spectral graphs for easy selection and editing, and the resulting files can be saved as MP3, MP2, WAV, WMA, AAC, M4A, FLAC, Ogg, and AMR files.

Though some of the options and features provided appear in more than one place – which can be confusing at times – the program’s interface is fairly well designed and structured, using a ribbon-based menu bar for easy access to all functions. Files can be imported into the program by ripping them from a CD, by extracting them from nearly any video file (the program supports all well-known video codecs), or simply by browsing through your media folders. As said, you can choose among the three viewing styles provided the one you feel for comfortable with when it comes to editing. You can add (and manage) as many markers as needed, and make use of various selection methods for easy and accurate cutting, mixing, trimming, copying, and pasting.

One of the program’s main assets is probably the large number of audio effects and filters provided, as well as how easy it is to apply them to your audio files. Fade in and out, normalization, compression, inversion, auto correction, tempo and pitch change, reverb, vibrato, chorus, noise reduction filters, are just some of the many functions available. One that you won’t find easily in other audio editors is the Voice Morpher. This effect can make your voice (or anyone’s, for that matter) sound like a cartoon or a monster, and speed it up and add an echo or flanging effect to it to produce a funnier or a more dramatic effect.

AVS Audio Editor is a comprehensive editing tool with more functionality and features than those you would expect from a similar tool. And remember that AVS tools never come alone – you will get an interesting set of audio-, video-, and image-related programs attached to it, together with some miscellaneous utilities to convert documents, burn discs, or clean your Windows registry.
